The 2015 "castells" season will bring around 13.000 human towers through the year

The 2015 human towers season starts with 94 "colles" (teams) and more than 12,000 actives "castellers" (team members), and forecast that growth that has characterized the activity in the last five years will continue. Thus, the year likely will close with about 13,000 "castells" raised in public at about 1,200 performances. The Coordinadora de Colles Castelleres de Catalunya has presented these data on Wednesday at a press conference held in the former factory of Estrella Damm, main sponsor of the "castells". In this regard, the director general of the company, Enric Crous, has announced that it is underway to renew the cooperation agreement this year, even though the current has effect up to 2016.

Through last six years the number of "castells" risen each season has doubled, reaching close to 12,500 last year. All indications are that this growth will continue, both quantitatively and qualitatively: increasingly more "colles" accomplish higher and more difficult "castells". This growth makes it more important preventing injuries. The forecast is to keep the percentage of falls around 3%.

Anothe highlight this year is the fact that on November 16th will be held the 5th anniversary of the inclusion of the "castells" in the Intangible Cultural Heritatge Representative List by the Unesco. In addition, since last year the new brand "Castells. Catalan Human Towers" is active.
